A Townhouse Snug, Carefully Resolved

Project Overview
The client was creating a snug within a limited room footprint, with the sofa already chosen and positioned. This created tight constraints around the depth, width and configuration of the media unit, which needed to feel purposeful without overwhelming the space.
More broadly, the property had become dated, with previous contemporary updates that felt at odds with the traditional character of the townhouse. The brief was to create a more settled interior, balancing practical storage and media use with detailing that felt more natural to the home.

The Approach
The media unit was designed as an integrated part of the room rather than a standalone feature. Its slimline form responded to the restricted layout, while open shelving, base storage and the TV section were carefully composed to keep the snug feeling balanced and usable.
Practical details were absorbed into the design, including ventilation, cable routes, sockets and switching, so the unit could function properly without disrupting the overall appearance. Through the stairwell, panel moulding and dado rail were carefully set out across changing levels, junctions and angles to create a more consistent architectural rhythm
